Creating Content Titles and Outlines

September 2, 2020 By Staff Writer Leave a Comment

It is time to create content titles and outlines now that you have done the hard work of creating focused keyword groups after diligent keyword research. This will help align your content marketing strategy better.

Create Content Titles For Each Keyword Group Theme

It is important to understand each keyword group theme that you have unearthed in your focused keyword research and create corresponding titles. Try to create at least 4 titles for each keyword group theme.

It is okay to be flexible with the titles you come up with for each keyword group. You can always go back and change them even after content creation.

After you have done this for all the keyword groups, return to the first group and pick what you feel is the best title that represents all the keywords in that group.

With the title of your choice selected, it is time to create the outline. The outline should contain all the keywords of the first keyword group.

What About Headers And Sub-Headers?

From the perspective of on page search engine optimization (SEO), it is highly recommended to include as many keywords as possible as headers and sub-headers. Do it in such a way that the headers compartmentalize the content naturally.

If you cannot use a keyword phrase as a header or sub-header, then use it to develop content. Trying to use all keywords as headers when they don’t really fit the piece will make it appear unnatural and look like keyword spamming. Avoid it at all costs.

Creating Your Outlines

An easy to understand outline is a win-win for everyone including yourself. If you were to revisit this outline in a few months time to create the content, you may not be able to make sense if it is complex.

This applies even more when you outsource this work. You will be busy running your business and will not have the time to explain the outline to the outsourced content writer.

Create an outline for each keyword group you have from the in-depth keyword research you completed.

Outlines And Internal Linking

As you work through the outlines, a much clearer picture emerges showing the different pieces of content that are inter-related. Make it a point to note down these linkages between content piece 1 and content piece 2. This paves the way for a natural internal linking architecture.

The internal linking structure gives Google a great idea of the hierarchical structure of your web site, accentuating the hub pages or focal nodes from where links originate to other inner pages. Typically, the home page is the most powerful page on every site as it houses the various parts of the site through the global menu.

The more internal links you have to certain pages on your site are deemed important by the search engines. This is a good SEO strategy to highlight your important pages and give them a boost with all possible internal links.

If you are going to develop the content, and you are a domain expert, a loose outline should suffice. If you are considering outsourcing, it is in your best interests to construct as detailed an outline as possible.
